More info

the cervantes theatre MalagaThe Cervantes theatre is situated in the heart of Málaga since 1870, a few steps from the house where Picasso was born and The Plaza de la Merced. It is surrounded by numberous tapa bars , restaurants and small night clubs. The Theatre has a continuous programation varying from music, theatre, opera, and more and has an aliance with the theatre Echegaray just 3 hundred metres further downtown close to central Calla Granada.

In summer 2016 further renovation and restoration work was carried out to the interior, involving repairs to the slab and replacement of the wooden flooring in the stalls area, which had been damaged by exposure to damp. This intervention also offered the opportunity to improve the slope in the stalls, thus improving visibility in the last few rows of seats.

Each summer the theatre holds a festival called Terral , sometimes outside with names in 2017 like Rachid Taha, Salif Keita, Dulce Ponte, Vicente Amigo and Maite Martin, meaning world class of ethnic music and flamenco. We remind a legendary gig of De La Soul somewhere around the year 2000 with over a 1000 hip hop dressed crowd jumping and dancing in the classic baroc looking venue…a night to remember !!
For march 2018 a Glenn Miler tribute has been set up.

Málaga Spanish Film Festival

the cervantes theatre MalagaEach year the Cervantes hosts a high-profile festival of Spanish films, with local legend Antonio Banderas often in attendance.
Since 1998, the city of Málaga in Andalusia has hosted this festival dedicated to showcasing and promoting Spanish film.
Every year the festival includes previously unseen feature-length and short filmsas weel as documentaries documentaries.

Malaga is transformed into a centre for debate and a meeting point for figures in the national film industry, as well as showcasing a wide range of productions. The theatre is just an hour and 15 min from the hotel by car, so a day trip is easily to do. We can also recommend to go by train as the trip passes the mountains of El Chorro with the spectacular King´s path and takes about an hour and a half.
