Sierra Nevada Granada
Sierra Nevada Granada Address: Calle de la Virgen de las Nieves
Web page: http://sierranevada.es/
At only 2 hours drive from Hotel Enfrente Arte in Ronda, one can go for a great day(s) of skiing in The Sierra Nevada. This is Europe´s most southern point for wintersport with the great advantage of almost always good weather.
Several days a year, one can ski in t shirt and contemplate on a clear day beautiful views of the Meditereanean sea. The whole atmosphere is less cold then in other winter ski resorts and lot’s of times outside barbecues are on offer. There are about 100 km ski slopes from very easy to black and red slopes for the profesionals.
The Sulayr snow park is a paradise for skieers and snow boarders with a lot of events during the season. The Sol y Nieve village where all lifts come togeter offers good entertainment from the afternoon onwards such as the Mirlo Blanco where one can ice skate or go for a roller coaster in between the snow.
Sierra Nevada has a lively nightlife with several discos, a lot of bars and good places for tapas as weel as a vaste offer of hotels, hostels and appartments.
Good to know is that there are frequent buses from Granada down town to the Sierra Nevada, meaning that if you are lodged in the city of Granada you just take the bus of about 45 minutes and do the same at night ; we do recommend to stay for a couple of days especialy if the weather is nice as the experience of combining sunny holidays in a winter resort is hard to find anywhere else.
We hosted together with Cetursa in 2015 A Decade in The Air Cup which was an event for a Red Bull documentary where our sport Bossaball celebrated it’s first decade in the air.
The tournament with Spain, Belgium, Holland and Argentina had its qualifications in thesnow on Saturday during the last day of skiing of the season which is an event called; “Going down in swimsuit” with hundres of people skking in swimming suits and bikinis. The day after on the Sunday, the event closed down in the port of Malaga, before the Pompidou museum with a breathtaking final between Argentina and Belgium who finally got the trophy.
This said from April onwards, Cetursa, the main organising platform of Sierra Nevada is doing a lot of efforts to promote Sierra Nevada in the summer season.
There are great options for mountain bikes and hiking and to observe wildlife. Good to know that on the other side of Sierra Nevada towards the sea, there is a region with beautiful villages called Las Alpujaras with Trevelez considered the best place in Spain to eat Jamon.
The Mirlo Blanco Recreation Zone & other activities
This landscaped area is located just beyond the Jara chairlift a nd down from the Al-Andalus gondola (Fuente del Mirlo & the “Mirlo Blanco”).
Several activities for all the family are offered here including toboggans, ski-bike, chair-bike, mini-ski, mini- snowboard and roller-sled, (“Trineo Ruso”) – a combined bobsled/rollercoaster ride. There is a restaurant/cafeteria with indoor and outdoor terraced seating.
The Fuente del Mirlo Blanco is the favorite for the young and the families ones during the summer in the mountain, a theme parkat the end of the El rio slope. In the same area, the indoor swimming pool Sport Club of Montebajo and the children’s sport and games carried out throughout the summer at the towns squares of Pradollano and Andalucia complete the leisure offer in the urban area, where the hotels, bars and restaurants are located.
