Opened its doors in 1956. The old-timers knew it as the bar with the movies, because apart from the bar, the first cinema in town was created here: Cine Ideal.
You could watch a movie here, have a Tapa and finish your evening tasting some local wines at the bodega. It was such a success that people used to bring their own chairs to put behind the last row. With the most popular movies from that time it happened a lot that the crowd did not stop from singing along with the music or songs from the movies. Local businesses could show their commercials.
In 1988 they decide to convert the cinema into “Tablao de Flamenco” (a Flamenco Club) and started organising all kinds of Flamenco concerts and evenings where every local could do his thing: singing, acting or just improvise.
At the start of the nineties, they closed the big hall and turned a part of it into a cosy and clubby bar, with a more diverse program such as DJ sessions, Cuban Shows or Flamenco fusion gigs.
Buscemi
Many bands have passed by till then, such as Color Humano, Buscemi, Wawadadakwa, Millionaire and lots of others.
Millionaire
In the afternoon the bar opens its doors to taste all kinds of teas and international coffees. The Arab mint tea must be one of their classics.

In 1999, director PETER YATES, cast and crew came to Hotel EnFrente Arte in Ronda (Andalusia) for the shooting of the TV-serie DON QUIXOTE, after MIGUEL DE CERVANTES’ novel DON QUIJOTE, written in 1605 and probably Spain’s most important literatural highlight. It is also one of the world’s most translated novels.
The amazing cast of this production, Bob Hoskins, John Litgow, Isabella Rossellini, Vanessa Williams and many other, stayed in our hotel and guaranteed legendary parties in the hotel in the nighttime after long days shooting in the beautiful Ronda decor.
Opening scene "Don Quixote" with the Ronda City Walls and the Port of Xijara
The city of Ronda is constantly present in the serie and in the opening scene you recognize the famous Muralla and Puerta de Xijara (City wall and Port of Xijara) of Ronda. Also the uphill street from the Calle Real to the Palace of Marquis de Salvatierra, passing the Philip V City Gate, appears in the serie. Later you can also see the Mondragon Palace, with the fencing scene, the Calle Tenorio (Tenorio Street) with the parade of the people from the village, the Ronda Catedral (La Iglesia de Santa María La Mayor) and much more.
Throughout the movie the typical andalusian background is present so anybody who loves Andalusia and it’s typical landscape should see this movie to get into the typical south spanish athmosphere of the white villages. The director also put a scene in the serie in a bar with a full live flamenco singing and dancing performance, which makes it even more typical.
Don Quixote, The serie, tells the story of Alonso Quijada, played by John Litgow, who gets obsessed by the figure of Don Quixote after reading Knights novels. BIOGRAPHY
John Litgow, born 19th of October 1945, in Rochester, New York, USA. Son of a retired actress and a father who was both a theatrical producer and director, he moved frequently as a child while his father founded and managed local and college theaters and Shakespeare festivals throughout the midwest of the United States. A distinguished career on Broadway gave him one Tony Award for "The Changing Room", a second nomination in 1985 for "Requiem for a Heavyweight", and a third in 1988 for "M. Butterfly". He received an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Roberta Muldoon in The World According to Garp (1982). A second Oscar nomination followed for terms of Endearment (1983). As the decade of the '90s came around a new career move brought him to television in the hugely successful series “3rd Rock from the Sun” (1996).
Bob Hoskins was born on October 26, 1942, in Bury St. Edmund's, UK. After some stage success, he expanded to television with roles in television series such as “Villains” (1972) and “thick as Thieves” (1974). In the mid-'70s, he started his film career, standing out when he performed alongside Richard Dreyfuss in John Byrum’s “Inserts” (1974). Hoskins broke through in 1978 in Dennis Potter’s mini TV series, “Pennies from Heaven” (1978), playing "Arthur Parker", the doomed salesman. A string of high-profile and successful films followed in the 1980's with “The Long Good Friday” (1980), “The Cotton Club” (1984), “Mona Lisa” (1986), which won him an Oscar nomination as well as a BAFTA Award. At the, Cannes Film Festival he wan a Golden Globe for “Who framed Roger Rabbit” (1988) Hoskins has always carefully balanced the riches of Hollywood with the labor of independent film, though leaning more towards the latter than the former. He works at smaller projects such as “Shane Meadows’ debut” and “24 7 : Twenty Four Seven” (1997), in which he starred as "Allen Darcy".
Isabella Rossellini was born on the 18th of June 1952, in Rome, Italy. Virtually identical to her mother ingrid Bergman, but suprisingly was never given the opportunity to portray her mother in a biographical film. The closest she came was an early accurate spoof of ilsa Lund in an episode of “Tales from teh Crypt” (1989). This former model is fluent in Italian, French and English and was engaged to director David Lynch from 1986 to 1990. Her most important roles are “Death becomes her” (1992), “The Gift” (1994), “King of the Corner” (2004), “Dragonfly” (2008), and several TV series like “Chicago Hope”. She also appears in photographs for Madonna’s coffee table book “Sex”. In January 2008 she narrated Guy Maddin’s silent film “Brand Upon the Brain” as part of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s New Music Festival at the Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall.
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra was a spanish novelist, poet and dramatist. They think he was born the 29th of September 1547 in Alcalá de Henares (small town in the east of the Province of Madrid) and died the 22nd of April 1616 in Madrid capital. Cervantes is considered to be the most important personality of Spain’s literature, especially for having written his magnum opus “Don Quixote” (“El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de La Mancha”). His influence on the Spanish language has been so important, that spanish sometimes is called The Language of Cervantes (La Lengua de Cervantes).
In 1569 he goes to Italy, where he joined the services of Giulio Acquaviva, a wealthy priest, elevated to cardinal in 1570. By then Cervantes was a soldier in a Spanish infantry regiment and continued his military life until 1575, when he was captured by Algerian pirates. He was ransomed by his captors and went back to Madrid. In 1585 Cervantes published a pastoral novel “La Galatea”. Because of financial problems, followed by iregularities in his account he will end up in the Crown Jail of Seville.
In 1605 he was in Valladolid just when the immediate success of the first part of his Don Quijote, published in Madrid, signaled his return to the literary world. In 1607, he settled in Madrid, where he lived and worked until his death. In 1615 Cervantes will write the second part and finish Don Quixote.
Cervantes died in Madrid on 23 April 1616. In honour of the date on which both Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare died. That’s why the UNESCO established 23rd of April as the International Day of the Book.
Andalusia means Tapas and Flamenco. The next video was recorded in Ronda, in the heart of Andalusia at just 1 hour from the Costa del Sol in the South of Spain, where a gypsy family (gitanos) performs ‘live’ in their living room ... That’s what tradition means!
We witness the typical gypsy athmosphere at La Casa del Tito Orillo de Ronda, with on the guitar Joaquin de Jovenes Gitanos who went on tour with the belgian band DAAU (die anarchistische Abendunterhaltung), in Belgium and Holland back in 1998. In that same year DAAU recorded the album “We need new Aninals” at the Hotel EnFrente Arte Studios in Ronda.

In November 1994 MADONNA came to RONDA, Andalusia (South Spain) to shoot the video “Take A Bow". It would be the second single, released in December same year, of her by that time new album “Bedtime Stories”.
During the shooting in Ronda, Madonna stayed at LA POSADA REAL hotel, which now is known as HOTEL ENFRENTE ARTE. See video about Hotel EnFrente Arte:
The moment local people of this beautiful and historic andalusian village, knew Madaonna was in the hotel at the Calle Real, people gathered at the hotel entrance, accompied by local and national television:
Madonna came to Ronda to do some shots at the Ronda Bullring (Plaza de Toros) which was denied by the Real Maestranza de Ronda, the owner of the bullring. That’s why finally she will only do exterior shots and some interior at the Palace of King Moor (Palacio del Rey Moro) in Ronda and went to Antequera, other provincial town 50 km north from Malaga, to do the bullring shots.
The spanish matador Emilio Muñoz, although there were rumours it would be played by Jesulín De Ubrique, is Madonna’s partner in a passionate but impossible love story, “between a matador and movie star”, says Madonna about it. The video was directed by Michael Haussman and obtained a MTV Video Award. The next video is ‘The making of’ from “Take A Bow” from MTV:
The song reached nr. 1 for 7 weeks in the American charts but at the same time it caused Madonna a lot of problems with animal rights fighting groups, saying she proofed be insensitive.
In 2003 Hotel EnFrente Arte - Ronda produced Axelle Red’s video “Toujours”, recorded at the banks of the Zahara de la Sierra Reservoir, at some 20km from Ronda (Andalucia). The whole crew stayed at the Hotel EnFrente Arte and for the final shooting also local people were invited.

One of the actors is STIJN, belgian musician who later will use a picture from the video shooting for the cover of his first album “Euphoric”. The man on that cover is a sheppard from Zahara de la Sierra and also appears on the Axelle Red video.

Another famous belgian in the video is NICO VEGAS aka Nico Vandevorst, fashion designer who used to work for WALTER VAN BEIRENDONCK and brother of An, ex first assistant from Dries Van Noten and one half of the belgian designers couple AF Vandevorst.
Nico Vegas also collaborated with Hotel EnFrente Arte in 2002 for the shooting of the video ‘Lost Grooves’ from belgian pop band BABYJOHN, recorded in Igualeja, small village in the Ronda Serrania and in 2004 for the making of ANDALUCIA PERSONAL, a different and alternative travel guide with comments and advices about special places in Andalucia given by interesting people like Stuart Staples (Tindersticks), Tom Barman (dEUS), Millionaire, Wawadadakwa, Think of One, Buscemi...

dEUS, is a band from Antwerp (Belgium), they record their album “The Ideal Crash” in the recording studio “En Frente Arte” in Ronda in 1999. That´s why they have this very special relationship with the Hotel Enfrente Arte.
Now dEUS is returning this spring (28th of April 2008) with their new album “Vantage Point” their boldest - and perhaps finest - album to date, featuring guest vocal appearances from Karin Dreijer Andersson from The Knife and Guy Garvey of Elbow.“Vantage Point” finds dEUS at their most adventurous and self-assured, containing moments of brooding grandeur, via propulsive rhythms, icy synths, deadly riffs and punk-funk grooves.
dEUS remain as eclectic as ever, though this new release also finds them at their most emotive and melody-driven, particularly on tracks such as “The Vanishing of Maria Schneider”, where Guy Garvey’s aching harmonies beautifully complement those of dEUS frontman Tom Barman.Having secured their status as art-rock legends during the 90s… lionised by the likes of Radiohead and REM… it is clear that the best was yet to come, as dEUS stake out bold new frontiers for themselves on what is surely one of the finest albums of 2008…
This is a text written by Tom Barman (singer of dEUS) Andalucia Personal Guide, in collaboration with Hotel Enfrente Arte. Andalucia is like springtime. It's old men smoking Ducados and shouting at each other. It's the walk uphill, puffing from the heat, just to go to that one bar that serves your favourite lechuga. It's the sweet wine of Malaga. It's the way people throw everything on the floor of the restaurant, even the ashtrays. It's the colour of the sky, the colour of her eye, the velocity of speech, the humour you don't get 'cause you hardly understand it, but you laugh anyway. 'Cause Andalucia is smiling at you, and if it seduces after ten o'clock, it kicks ass at one. It's the sea and the foreign newspapers, the sickening drives through the mountains, the intensity, if intensity is what you look for. It's the navajas, phallic delicacy, better than mussels, bigger than snails, only available on Tuesdays and Fridays, on the other side of town, maybe. Andalucia is glamorous without stars, rich without money, warm-hearted, and welcoming. Andalucia smiles at you.
A word from TOM: Hi everybody,
Just a word from me to tell you that our record Vantage Point is finished, it was recorded in Antwerp in our brand new studio by the same name. Release is set for April 21st. We’ll tour in Europe in April and May, playing smaller clubs in the big cities. The plan is then to attack the summerfestivals and return for a more extensive tour in the autumn. I can’t wait to go on the road again. Vantage Point was produced by Dave McCracken and mixed by Joe Hirst. Two young but experienced Englishmen who never stopped working until they got it right. I think they like the Belgian food too. Only problem was, Dave beat me at playing pool and made me lose a lot of money. I’m never gonna work with him again. The line-up is the same as last tour and I think it shows. We’re sounding like a damn tight outfit if you ask me. Some songs are loud and groovy, others, like ‘Smokers Reflect’ and ‘Eternal Woman’ are as melody-driven as you’ve ever heard us. We experimented a lot with the voices so expect some fucked up Gregorian chants over Stef’s and Alan’s rhythm-section. We also welcomed some distinguished guests.
There’s Lies Lorquet from Mintzkov, who sings as beautifully and understated as ever. We’re all secretly in love with her. Then there’s Guy Garvey from Elbow, who sent his vocal straight from the Massive Attack studio where he was working and turned ‘The Vanishing Of Maria Schneider’ into and old-world, super-romantic Technicolor lovesong. And last but not least, there’s Karin Dreijer Andersson from The Knife, who flew from Stockholm to guest on ‘Slow’. She’s got a unique voice and we’re all really proud she delivered so passionately. By the way, I’m finishing the video for that song right now, and it will be presented to you on our new site. You will be able to download it for free in the highest resolution soon. In short: I can’t wait until you hear and see all of this and of course, I hope you like it like we do.
See you soon, Tom
Text by Don Disturbios “Mondosonoro” 26/03/2008
EnfrenteArte has carried out a large amount of productions.
