BIOGRAPHY DELASOUL

De La Soul is the mythical and highly influential hip-hop trio from Long Island, New York. Posdnuos, Trugoy the Dove and P.A. Pasemaster Mase were outstanding members of the Zulu Nation of Afrika Bambaataa and the collective Native Tongues Posse. Their presence in Territorios Sevilla is due to the 20th anniversary of their capital début, “3 Feet High and Rising” (Tommy Boy Records, 1989), which included songs as essential as “Me, Myself and I” or “The Magic Number”. They became known by their eclectic and eccentric samples, of which was very responsible the advanced production of Prince Paul, also due to their surrealistic lyrics and their contributions to the evolution of the sub-genre jazz rap. The will play their key album in full together with Rhythm Roots Allstars, a band formed by more than ten musicians, for the only concert they will perform in Spain.


- THE GO! TEAM

BIOGRAPHY THE GO! TEAM

The Go! Team are a British band born in Brighton. Formed by six members (with two drums), their songs feed from musicals, action films, cheerleaders choirs, guitar rock and vintage hip-hop, seasoned with a little funk. Their songs are a mixture of live instrumentation and samples. The Go! Team’s first album, “Thunder, Lightning, Strike”, was released by Memphis Industries in 2004 and was acclaimed by the critics. In June, Ian Parton, their mastermind, had to hire them as support band for Franz Ferdinand. The live group became an “independent entity” from the original studio version. The album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2005. In May 2007, The Go! Team announced the sale of their new single, “Grip Like a Vice”, and the subsequent album, “Proof of Youth”. The new album keeps on with the mix of samples, live recordings and a selection of special guests including the hip-hop legend Chuck D, the electro diva Solex and the singer of Bonde Do Role, Marina Ribatski.


- DJ MUGGS (CYPRESS HILL)

Over the past two decades hip-hop music has taken the world by storm. From the old school days when the DJ was a rock-star and the MC was his hype man, to the era of big name rappers, and now back to the DJ / Producer being the main man. One person who has withstood all these years as a world-class DJ and super producer is DJ Muggs. Known through-out the world as the DJ & producer for Cypress Hill has a long track record as not only a champion DJ but as someone who has produced music that has sold over 20 million units! He is also one of the few DJ's to transcend several eras and styles and still maintain a very successful and relevant career. This path was a long-time in the making. He dropped the "Dust" LP in 2003 which was very different from most of his past productions. Muggs has been a huge influence on the "mash-up" movement and is well known for his collection of rock & rap mixes. His rock DJ sets are truly incredible. As if that wasn’t enough, he started his own record label in 2003, Angeles Records, and has been producing projects of his own label now. An instant classic amongst real hip-hop fans around the world, "The Grandmasters" album with Muggs & GZA from Wu-Tang was one of the first major projects he has created for his own label.


- MIXMASTER MIKE (BEASTIE BOYS)

One of the premier scratch artists of the day, Mixmaster Mike got his initial itch for vinyl while growing up in San Francisco listening to his uncle’s extensive record collection. Years later, the moment that had the most impact on him was catching Grandmixer DST on stage with Herbie Hancock. In 1992, Mike was the first West Coast DJ to become World Champion by winning the New Music Seminar DJ Battle for World Supremacy in New York City. That same year, Mike, DJ Apollo and Q-Bert, known as the first ever scratch band, won the DMC World title. In 1994, after winning three consecutive world titles and consistently coming out on top, Mike and Q-Bert were asked to step down from further competition as their domination was too much for the rest of the pack. Shortly thereafter, friends and fellow turn tablists Triple Threat - Apollo (Apollo Novicio), D-Styles (Dave Cuasito) and Shortkut (Jonathan Cruz) - joined Mike and Q-Bert to form the Invisible Skratch Picklz (ISP), the most influential and recognizable turntablist crew in history. Soon after completion of "Hello Nasty recording, the Beastie Boys offered Mike to become their resident DJ.


- GOLDFINGER CREW

Goldfinger Crew is born in Barcelona in 2006, when three of its current members, DJ Pixel, DJ Kush and Beat Prize, crossed their paths through the DJ’s competition circuit of DMC (Disco Mix Club). Their background turned to be different though complementary: DJ Pixel treasured a long experience as electronic music DJ in several clubs of Barcelona underground scene, Beat Prize had been combining for years his work as DJ with the production and DJ Kush came from the hip-hop field after many collaborations with national groups. The association of these three talented musicians turned into the project, which aimed to merge the three disciplines in one only equation: DJ + production + live. The group’s version 1.0 won DMC Spain DJ championship and got to the world finals at the O2 Arena of London. Next year the fourth member joined the group, DJ Dare, columnist, producer and renowned DJ. After winning the second national championship and the fifth position in the DMC World championship, they started their career as musical group, with a very forceful live and a wide range of electronic fragrances riding around scratch on the most catchy and lively dance rhythms.


- DJ ZAS

DJ Zas is nowadays a member of the Sevillian group Los 2 and Yassta (Destroyer and Tauro Rex) and the rap-rock group Toma de Contacto. In the Festival Territorios we will enjoy a fantastic rap session. This local DJ also has a self edited work, available from his website for free. The mixtape “Zas, En Toda La Boca. Vol.1” is a work including cuts of American, Canadian, English, French… themes. And, of course, collaborations in Spanish. Plenty of scratches, jugglers and mixes and the combination of them perfectly define their style.

- SCRATCH PERVERTS

Scratch Perverts is a British collective of turntablist DJs, formed in 1996 by Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts and DJ Renegade. Originally the crew started with four members and later on grew up to eight, and even in 2000 spent a complete inactivity period, to be finally established with Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts and Plus One as steady members. The Perverts won the first DMC championship by teams in 1999, while Prime Cuts achieved twice in a row the world title of scratch ITF and Plus One the Vestax battle in 2000. Their technical contributions include exercises like the “feedback” or the “Euro scratch”. Although they are officially retired from the competitions, they still make DJ sets regularly, with tours around the world and a residence in the prestigious London club Fabric. They have also dared to produce their own music that feeds from the most school hip-hop as well as from electronic geniuses such as Aphex Twin. Alert to all the new sound trends, because, for instance, they are well known for the introduction of drum and bass touches in their repertoire.
