- ALPHA BLONDY
BIOGRAPHY ALPHA BLONDY
Seydou Koné was born in Dimbokro, Ivory Coast in 1953. In 1972, in Odjenné, he forms a group with his colleagues Price (guitar), Pop Touré (drums) and Diallo Salia (bass). After spending one year in Monrovia learning English and French, he returns to Ivory Coast with the idea of leaving for the United States of America. In 1981 he’s offered to appear in “First chance”, where he would play four songs: “Christopher Colombus”, by Burning Spear, and three of his compositions: "Bintou Were Were", "Dounougnan" and "The end". Due to the enthusiasm provoked by the TV show, George Benson suggested to produce his first album, “Jah Glory”, in 1983. Together with his group, Solar System, he made himself known around the whole planet, heightening the African colours. During all this time he has become one of the legends of contemporary reggae, turning hits like “Cocody Rock” (1984), "Jerusalem" (1986) or his last album, "Jah Victory" (2007) into hymns, together with the ex-Wailer Tyron Downie and the duet Sly & Robbie. In this album, number seventeen in his career, he goes back to his recurring themes: love, peace and universality, performed in the three languages he was raised: Diola, French and English.
- EMIR KUSTURICA & The No Smoking Orchestra
BIOGRAPHY EMIR KUSTURICA
The No Smoking Orchestra is a band formed in the convulsed Sarajevo of 1980 by Nelle Karajlic, who originally thought of making of it an anarcho-punk group, though never forgetting their roots. Today, the visible head of the band is Emir Kusturica, known in the west by his film activity. The band, formed completely by musicians from the ex Yugoslavia, is an extension of the variety and fragmentation of the Balkans, with a spirit of rock and roll that calls around it trends from jazz, folk or gypsy music, and a notorious presence of Central European rhythms, like polka, and even Arabian, product of the Islamic presence in the region. The No Smoking Orchestra, composers and performers of the soundtracks of Emir Kusturica’s last films, are back in the road again and are touring with a repertoire that includes themes from the films “Black Cat, White Cat” and “Life is a Miracle”, plus an adaptation of “Unza Unza” for the stage, from the compositions of the opera “Time of the Gypsies” and, of course, some of the titles of the soundtrack of Emir Kusturica’s new film.
- OJOS DE BRUJO
BIOGRAPHY OJOS DE BRUJO
This band is born in 1996 with the idea of making music from flamenco and headed for other styles. The first group came up as a result of jam sessions among musicians who passed by Barcelona and were developing other projects. The themes from these meetings become a first album, “Vengue” (2000, Edel Records), where Ojos de Brujo defines itself as a group of collaboration (Dani and Beto from Macaco, Muñeco from Amparanoia, Antonio Ramírez from Los Flamencorro, Xavi Turull from Amalgama, Marina Abad from Aguita Troupe, Panko from Electric Funkdango…). “Barri” (meaning “jewel, essence and virtue” in gypsy slang) is their second record, launched with several gigs around the world between 2002 and 2005. This work means a progression, more mature and experimental, reflecting on the respect for the planet and the importance of popular wisdom. In 2006 they release “Techarí”, which reflects the continuous experimentation with flamenco and the emotion of well done things with an overflowing passion. Here meetings with Daara J, Martirio, Maxwell Wright, Roberto Carcasses, Nitin Sawney, Pepe Habichuela, Asian Dub Foundation or Raúl Rodríguez take place. The popularity of the group increases with the collaboration in film soundtracks such as “Amnesia”, “Volverás” or “El Gran Gato”. Ojos de Brujo has just released “Aocaná”, their 4th album, and they have scheduled the corresponding tour to take it close, as usual, to all the corners of the planet.
- BURAKA SUM SISTEMA
BIOGRAPHY BURAKA SUM SISTEMA
Buraka Som Sistema consists of producers Lil' John, Riot and Conductor, and MC Kalaf, but count amongst their ranks an extended family of dancers and MCs from around the globe. Every face is a valued part of their limb-enslaving hybrid assault of native Angolan Kuduro and the roughest globe-scoured ghetto-funk riddims. In just two years the group have released a slew of breakthrough singles, torched the blogosphere with their MIA featuring viral video "Sound Of Kuduro", and wowed audiences in over 13 countries with the mesmerizing dance-driven spectacle at the heart of kuduro. No wonder Fader mag dubbed their live feast, “One of the most jaw-droppingly effusive club moments we’ve experienced”. Now with their debut long-player, "Black Diamond", finally set to drop, escalating infamy is set to erupt into worldwide domination. With powerful comrades in the likes of Diplo and Switch, and collaborators in Kano, MIA and Hot Chip -to name but a few- they’ve become the driving heartbeat of the headline-grabbing global ghetto-funk revolution. Together they’ve destroyed dated preconceptions of world music, with cross-continental collisions responsible for many of the gnarliest club cuts in recent years.

He later went on to co-author the mixtape "Piracy Funds Terrorism Vol. 1" with M.I.A, an underground success which included some baile funk themes.

- TOMASITO
BIOGRAPHY TOMASITO
The musical talent of Tomasito is almost unique. With a solid flamenco training acquired in Santiago quarters (Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz), he is able to adapt into flamenco any music, including TV commercials and mass songs, AC/DC hard rock sung in tangos’ style, break-dance with soleá rhythm, blues, funk, rap, punk, hip-hop… And all this with flamenco sound. His peculiar musical concept has set a trend. Navajita Plateá, also from his same neighbourhood, follows partly his path. As dancer he is unique and inimitable, with a style of his own impossible to learn at any academy. It is an electric dance, a result from his lively and curious personality: for example his album “Cositas de la Realidad” (2002) includes a real heel tapping by Tomasito as percussion. Under the production of Tino Di Giraldo, the artist from Jerez is preparing his third album: “Y de lo Mío Ké”. An eclectic career where he keeps getting projects off the ground, such as the G-5 together with Muchachito, Delinqüentes and Kiko Veneno, or his dancer side with artists like Chano Domínguez. Now it’s the time to show his complete art on stage, revealing his new work.
