‘ASHES’

Scene from "Ashes"
Haendel, electronic soundscapes, 8 dancers, 5 musicians and the physics of the Belgian New Reality Choreography of Contemporary Dance by Koen Augustijnen is in a couple of words describing the latest production of Les Ballets C. De La B.
The music of Haendel can be interpreted as the initial concept of this new performance, where Steve Dugardin, who sang in IMPORT/EXPORT, will be accompanied by a soprano. This dramatic mix will bring us automatically to the marvellous Haendel love duets. The ballerinas are supported by 5 musicians playing accordion, laud, cello, marimba/percussion and violin.
Thirteen artists on scene, women and men, amongst various with experience in acrobatics who will try to transmit an even higher level of emotions to the audience, as they did the last time they where at the Teatro Central in Seville.
Like the title indicates, the principal philosophy of this production is the non-continuity. Nothing is forever. How can we deal with that?
The presentation deals with all the things people do, and don’t, to avoid losing what they do have and how a person’s life is intruded by this continuous duel.
LES BALLETS C. DE LA B.

It is not very easy to classify Les Ballets C. de la B., but on the other side it could be called ‘a style’ (on its own). They are anarchy, eclectic, decided and popular, maybe that’s why their lemma is: “This dance belongs to the world, the world belongs to everybody”.

The dance company always has been an artistic platform for divers choreographers who could not only rely on the help of Alain Platel, but also on help from Christine De Smedt and Koen Augustijnen. In the beginning Hans van de Broeck and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui were also with the company but lately they form and train the young and promised dancers to the different disciplines and formations needed to participate at this dynamic process. Due to the exclusive mix of artistic visions that they have in a mutual fecundation Les Ballets B. de C. are difficult to define.
Since 1991 Koen Augustijnen has been working for Les Ballets C. de la B., initially as a stand in dancer on stage for Alain Platel and Hans van de Broeck, but in 1997 he became the main choreographer of the campany.

Before all that Augustijnen was formed at the contemporary dance work shops of Wim Vandekeybus, Min Tanaka, Laurie Booth, Suzanne Linke, David Zambrano and Francisco Camacho. But his real artistic talent arose on stage with the performances of Les Ballets B. de la C.
Apart from his work with Les Ballets, Augustijnen has also been working together with dEUS, Toneelgroep Amsterdam and Stalker Theatre Company, as examples.

Belgian band dEUS
IMPORT/EXPORT has been Augustijnen's last creation, an enormous successful production performed as well at the Central Theatre of Seville.
