ALBERT PLA live in MALAGA – CÁNOVAS THEATRE

On Saturday 9th and on Sunday the 10th of May 2009 ALBERT PLA will play live at the Cánovas Theatre in Malaga.

Albert Pla is one of the most important Spanish singer-songwriters who, only with his guitar and his voice, is able to astonish the audience with his eclectic, ironic and sometimes brutal songs which makes him a victim and the headsman of reality at the same time. This concert is part of his new tour to promote his latest album called ‘La Diferencia’.

BIOGRAPHY Albert Pla
Albert Pla was born on the 22nd of September 1966 in Sabadell, city in the Province of Barcelona, Catalonia, North East Spain. He is one of the most important contemporary singer-songwriters who usually sings in ‘Catalan’ (dialect from Catalonia), but also in regular ‘Castellano’, (Spanish). His lyrics are a proof of his peculiar and extreme personality, very often of certain polemic contents, sometimes even childish.

Quimi Portet
In the past Pla has been working together with personalities in Spanish music like Manolo Kabezabolo, Quimi Portet (from the Spanish band El ultimo de la Fila), Roberto Iniesta (from the band Extromoduro), Fermin Maguruza (from the Basque bands Kortatu and Negu Gorriak), Quico Pi de la Serra and Kase. O (from Doble V). He also brought more than once personal and intimate hommenages to Pau Riba and Jaume Sisa.
He also has been collaborating with Spanish movie directors like Juanma Bajo Ulloa, for his film Airbag; and Honor de Caballería from the director Albert Serra. Albert Pla has been collaborating in Theatre productions as well like Caracuero from Helmut Krausser with more than 150 performances.

Isabel Coixet
In 1998 he worked with the famous Spanish director Isabel Coixet for her movie A Los Que Aman. Coixet became internationally famous with first full movie Things I never told you (‘Cosas que nunca te dije’), for which she moved to the USA back in 1996. Before that she was basically doing commercials for big companies like Ikea, Winston, Pepsi, Renault, Danone, Kronenbourg, Procter & Gamble and much more.

Isabel Coixet also directed “My life without me” (‘Mi vida sin mi’) which was a huge success all over the world and maybe her real breakthrough. It tells the heartbreaking story about a young mother who is told that she soon will die because of a uncurable disease. She quiet accept her situation and start making plans for the future of her family... Life, without her. The cast of this incredible movie is also very interesting: Sarah Polley, Amanda Plummer, Leonor Watling and Deborah Harry.

Secret Life of Words - poster
Due to success for My life without me, she was able to record the “Secret life of Words” (La vida secreta de las Palabras) - 2005 - with leading actors Tim Robbins and, again, Sarah Polley. Again a mayor and successful production.

Rinko Kikuchi
In 2008 she directed “Elegy”, based on a Philip Roth novel, with Penelope Cruz as main character. In the beginning of 2009 she did Mapa de los sonidos de Tokyo (‘Map of the sounds of Tokio’) with Rinko Kikuchi and Sergi López.

In 1997 Albert Plas song “Sufre como yo” (‘Suffer like me’) was one of the songs on the soundtrack from the movie Carne Trémula from the most famous contemporary Spanish director Pedro Almodovar. The leading actor of Carne Tremula is Javier Bardem.
